TSM CJS Models - software bug or error in theory

Postby aber_r16 » Tue May 26, 2015 7:28 pm

HI,

I am analyzing a dataset in which I found through RELEASE gof testing significant evidence of lack of fit due to failures of TEST2.SR suggesting transients in the dataset.

I am attempting to now run TSM CJS models to try to improve the fit however am running into problems running some of the models. I am building the models, as instructed in the GIM, by PIM structure.

I can successfully run these models:
p(t)phi(2m-t/t)
p(t)phi(2m-*/t)
p(*)phi(2m-t/t)

When I run these models I get error messages (Ill describe below).

p(t)phi(2m-t/*)
p(t)phi(2m-*/*)

I get 2 error messages, one after another as below:

"ERROR -- Unclosed comment string
Do you want to see full output for this error (yes/no)"

then after hitting yes or no (I didn't see anything to useful in the txt when I hit yes)

"Could not parse output properly in file mrk3226y.tmp for model.
ERROR -- Unclosed comment string."

My question is - Is this a software problem, or am I asking MARK to run models that aren't possible? for example, is the reduced parameter model p(*)phi(2m-*/*) which only has three parameters to estimate possible? I am new to Mark and Mark-Recapture theory but do feel that these models should be possible.

Thanks in advance! Robin

This will sound silly, but try using something other than an asterisk in the model title. Comments in MARK inp files are delimited by /* and */, and it is possible that MARK is having an issue with something in the model title that looks like a comment.

Not silly at all! That was the solution! Thanks Cooch!
