Hi folks, I would like to estimate recapture probs and apparent survival of birds mist-netted in three forest fragment size classes and in continuous forest.

My inp file like this

occasion history 1 0 0 0; (for continuous forest)
occasion history 1 1 0 0; (for 1 ha fragments)
occasion history 1 0 1 0; (for 10 ha fragments)
occasion history 1 0 0 1; (for 100 ha fragments)

for several hundred rows (captures)....

I always get one fewer groups than what I specify.

The question is; how do I set up the inp file and what do I select in the dialog box to get estimates of phi and rho for each fragment and for the continuous forest plot.

Similar ? with 4 groups and dummy variables in enc. hist

I have had similar problems figuring out how to code for 4 groups in input files. I believe that your four groups should be coded as:
1 0 1 0 ;
0 1 1 0;
1 0 0 1;
0 1 0 1;

However, in my case I was coding for sex (2 categories, obviously) and age (2 classes). Thus, the first 2 columns refered to sex, either 1 0 or 0 1, and the last 2 columns similarly reflected age.

My question was that I am having difficulty understanding how to know which group (1-4) corresponds to which group of dummy variables in the opening window of Mark. For example, you tell Mark that your input file has 4 groups, but I am not sure which set of dummy variables (e.g., 1 0 1 0 ) refers to group 1, or 2, or 3, or 4.
