Spatial replicates and time varying detection probability

Having a tough time wrapping my head around what a p(t) model would really mean if your repeat surveys are spatial replicates....is it even meaningful?

p(t) would mean the first spatial replicate at each occupied sampling unit has a different detection probability to the second spatial replicate, etc. Given the the spatial replicates are probably arbitrarily numbered anyway, a p(t) probably isn't meaningful in most applications.
