book re-compilation

Postby cooch » Thu Jan 26, 2012 2:54 pm

Just re-compiled the book (in both landscape and portrait orientations). A fair number of 'fixed typos', and a few other minor changes. Some year I'll actually take a crack at 'updating and enhancing' the index (which at present is fairly rudimentary, IMO).

You can grab the book (or individual chapters, which are always the most current), at

http://www.phidot.org/software/mark/docs/book/

p.s. reminder I always welcome pointers to errors, typographical or otherwise.

FYI, Appendix E (MCMC) is missing in the compiled version and chapter list.

Which you'd have explained for yourself if you'd searched the forum. Have a look at, say

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2055

Appendix E isn't 'missing', it simply isn't ready for prime-time yet.

Note (2) -- yes, I know the available appendices look like there has been a 'point deletion mutation' (A, B, C, D, F, G), but that is because appendix E (the MCMC chapter) isn't ready for release yet

Could it be that on page 65 of chapter 6 the value for the beta estimate of B1 is not 0.0845 with 95%CI of 0.064 to 0.105, but 0.8742505 with 95%CI of 0.8610530 to 0.8874480?

The values that I get for B0 do correspond with those in the manual.

Thanks!

or is it that the number in the manual correspond with the given value of B1 in the table minus te given value of B0 in the table, as that seems to be correspond. If so, this is not very clear from the manual, or I have overlooked it somewhere earlier in the manual.

Not sure what you're looking at -- perhaps you don't have the most recent version of the chapter. (I'm guessing, since the material you refer to is actually on p. 66).

\hat{\beta}_0=0.7897399 and \hat{\beta}_1=0.0845106

It is also possible that you're confused because the linear model is written following the standard convention of using \beta_0 for the intercept, whereas MARK defaults to using B1 for the intercept column in the DM (although though this can be changed: File | Preferences).

Yes, it is indeed on p.66. The confusion was caused by the text on p.65 reporting different numbers then in the file, and then on p.66 it is basically explained more. Not a very big deal indeed.

Is it possible to obtain a 'beta' copy of Appendix E offline even if it is not entirely finished?

Thanks
