Bootstrap GOF error

Postby Isurus » Tue Apr 12, 2005 5:34 pm

Hello,

I sincerely hope this is not a RTFM question, as I have and can not figure out why I am getting tis error. Does the bootstrap GOF procedure work on Brownie type classic recovery matrix (Dead recoveries)? I am trying to run this procedure on my data (which is in the above format) and I get the error "The bootstrap GOF procedure only works for known fate, live recaptures, and dead recoveries at the moment". It says it works for dead recoveries so am I missing something? Thanks for any help you can give.

bootstrap for brownie

I'm just guessing, but I suspect it is set up to run for the recoveries only option [probability of recovery is (1-S)r] but not for the Brownie model [probability of recovery is f]. Simulating the sampling process would be easier to code under the former.

bootstrap for brownie

The bootstrap only works for the dead recoveries with the S and r parameterization, not the S and f parameterization. If you change the data type over to the S and r parameterization, and run the global model, you can then do a bootstrap analysis on the S & r model. I just checked, and this works in my version.

Thank you for the prompt responses. I switched to the S and r parameterization and it now works.

Obviously, then, you didn't RTFM. Chapter 10, pp. 24-26.

Yes, but here is my personal plea for you and all new users:

1. RTFM first - that includes the 'Gentle Guide', the online documentation at CSU, and then relevant parts of the Williams, Nichols and Conroy book.

2. if after making a concerted and sincere effort on your own to figure things out (i.e., reading the background), there are things you still have trouble with (or if, perish the thought, the documentation isn't clear!), then post your questions.
