Transition probabilities for multi-state models

Postby Rob_Leaf » Mon Nov 29, 2004 3:18 pm

Hello,

I was hoping to get some advice about using the 'Multi-strata recaptures only' protocol in Mark. I would like to know how to construct a model that will restrict the possible transitions such that for my nine strata (1:9), in this case size classes for construction of a size structured matrix model, the model will only evaluate the probability of transitioning (psi) from smaller to larger size classes. So the the model will not evaluate the probability of transition from strata 9 to 1 for example.

I have been having a difficult time setting up this model in MARK and could sure use some advice.

Thanks in advance,

constraining transitions

I'm surprised you couldn't figure this out from the multi-state chapter (which Ill assume you read in full).

Very simple - simply constrain the transitions which aren't 'logical' to be zero. You do this by using the 'fix parameter' option.

Thanks very much for that. I have been working with the data for the last few days and it looks good. Robert
