Capture occasions

Postby porcupine » Tue Nov 06, 2007 2:51 pm

My question is: should individuals that are only captured in the last capture occasion be removed from the analysis? My thinking is that they should be removed because they will not provide any information.

Thank you

I presume what you are saying is that you want to toss the individuals that were first captured on the last occasion. The answer depends on the model that you are fitting in MARK. If you are talking about the recaptures only model then you can toss them or leave them in because your intuition is correct that they will not provide any information. If you leave them in it will not affect the results. If you are talking about other models (eg JS or closed) then first captures are important even on the last occasion.
