questions concerning analysis/theory using program MARK

denying years

Postby Luc te Marvelde » Tue Sep 09, 2003 7:37 am

I have got quite a long series of ringed birds (and their resigntings). In 1995 we have not been ringing any birds... Question: Can we calculate a survival-/recapturerate for this year, or do I have to do something so that this years wil not be estimated (and how do I do this)?

Thanks in advance,

You haven't really provided enough info on your analysis for a comprehensive answer. Are you tagging chicks and looking at annual changes in survival? - or tagging adults ? etc .

Just taking things on face value, there is no problem with having a year where no banding took place - this will simply be reflected in the encounter histories file, and there is no need to alter the analysis in any way. The data on resighting in 1995 will still give you valuable information on survival of birds banded in other years.

Thanks. When I read it agian i see there's little information in my question. We do ring chicks (of larus melanocephalus) en sometimes adults.

Thanks for your answer. I now know that we can estimate a survivalrate for the year in which we did not ring any chick/adult.
