input file preparation

Greeting everyone!
I am trying to build my input file.
i have 8 areas in the city, each area visited 5 times and stray cats were "captured-recaptured".
So, i have 8 groups (poor/rich neighbourhoods, different housing patterns), males/females, adults/kittens, neutered/non-neutered cats. How do i put all this data in MARK input file?

if i have for example 00110 case history for a adult neutered male, in a poor, private housing neighbourhood? i understand that i somehow have to code all of these covariates, but i'm guessing they cannot all be dummies (o/1), right? wrong?

Read Chapter 2 of the MARK book, as a starting point. In fact, at this stage, put away *your* data, and work through Chapter 1 -> 7 (at least) of the book, before going much further. The book can be found at

I saw that if you have one variable, like male/female, you write for an individual animal 1 in th appropriate sex and zero in the other. But what do i do if i have male female neutered non neutered? if i have a neutered male do i code him 1 1 (neutered and male) or do i need different coding for different grouping variables?

Have another read of section 2.1.1 in Chapter 2. It discusses an example of what you're talking about.
