A PhD research fellowship is available at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo, Norway.

The PhD candidate will work in a project on life-history variation in ground beetles supervised by Hans Petter Leinaas, Kjell Einar Erikstad and myself. One of the main aims of the project is to tease apart the role of phenotypic plasticity and genetic differences in causing intraspecific patterns of life-history variation along climate gradients. Methods may include field experiments, lab experiments (we have a modern ecotron), capture-mark-recapture methods and molecular techniques.

The position is available for a period of four years with 25% teaching/tutoring, starting at the earliest 1st of August 2008 (the actual start date is negotiable).

The project is well funded and the candidate will have available approximately 4000 EUR yearly for books, consumables, conference/course participation and travels (separate funding is available for lab and field work).

Salary: NOK 325 600 - 355 000 (about EUR 40 700 - 44 400, or USD 63 400 - 69 100) per year.

Application deadline: June 30th 2008
