The Cetacean Research Program at the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center is hiring a Cetacean Assessment Specialist.

This permanent Federal position is part of the of the Protected Species Division of the National Marine Fisheries Service, Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC), located in Honolulu, Hawaii. The person in this position will be responsible for conducting cetacean stock assessment analyses using sophisticated computer-based methods and will provide scientific support to management teams (take-reduction teams, biological review teams, etc) on cetacean population response to proposed management measures. We are looking for someone with strong quantitative skills and training (and hopefully experience) with both traditional survey methods (line & point transect, mark-recapture) and capable of adapting those techniques and others for new assessment applications (mobile and stationary acoustics, fisheries-dependent surveys, telemetry applications, etc.). The Program is responsible for cetacean assessment in all U.S. territories and holdings in the Central and Western Pacific.
