trap happy or trap shy?

Postby nlsanto2 » Mon Apr 29, 2013 5:52 am

Hello,

I am a beginner in CMR analysis and I am having troubles in understanding my test2 CT results (below).
In particular I am interested in the trap dependency tests. My question is:

Do the trap dependency tests indicate a trap happy or a trap shy response?
The manual says that the statistic "is shifted to positive (trap happyness) or negative (trap shyness) values..." but then on the results it shows that "trap-happiness<0 trap-shyness>0" that appears confusing to me..

Of course the difference would fundamental to me to understanding the sources of lack of fit in my data so I would be very grateful to everyone who can help me with this simple question,

Nina Santostasi

TEST2.CT, group =1
component df z LOR S.E.LOR chi2 G2
2 1 -2.24 -0.80 0.36 5.00 4.96
component df low nrs P(chi2) P(Cochran) P(G2)
2 1 0.00 0.03 0.03 0.03
==========================================================
N(0,1) signed statistic for trap-dependence =-2.2353
trap-happiness<0 trap-shyness>0
P-level, two-sided test =0.025395
logit(p*)-logit(p) =-0.8011
N(0,1) standardized LOR statistic for trap-dependence =-2.2017
trap-happiness<0 trap-shyness>0
P-level, two-sided test =0.027685
Overall test df =1
Quadratic Chi2 =4.9967
P-level =0.025395
G2 =4.9609
P-level =0.025926

Hi Nina,
N(0,1) signed statistic for trap-dependence =-2.2353
trap-happiness<0 trap-shyness>0
P-level, two-sided test =0.025395

You are dealing with trap-happiness because the signed statistic is <0 (and P<0.05), otherwise it would be trap-shyness.

Thank you very much for your answer!

Can I bother you with one more question? :D
Have you had the chance to read the U-CARE manual (page 28)? On Table 9 there is written the exact opposite interpretation of that statistic (at least I think). Do you think that it is a typing error or am I missing something?

Thank you again for the answer,
Nina

Hi Nina,

Perhaps Rèmi would like to explain it in detail, but I am sure a negative value of that statistic means trap-happiness and vice versa trap-shyness. Have a look at Pradel, Gimenez & Lebreton 2005, table 6 to make you sure.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Best wishes,

Simone
