Problem with U-CARE and input files

Postby simone.giavi » Tue Jan 19, 2010 1:59 pm

Hi,

I am exactly in the same situation as Timkdavies expect that even the example file “ed_males.inp” does not starts! U-CARE does not load any files, and the same happens trying to check input files with the "Verify (Mark format)" command. Quite frustrating!...

Thank ‘you very much for any help,

Simone
Hi,

I am having issues loading certain input files (.inp) into U-CARE.

I can successfully load the ed_males.inp example file and run GOF tests.
However, my own data will not load. Nor will some of the other MARK example files (e.g DIPPER.inp).

After browsing for and selecting the desired .inp file, U-CARE suddenly closes. A warning message seems to flash up on the DOS screen, but this screen closes far too quickly to even read the first word.

My input file is in standard MARK format and runs CJS models without a hitch. I'm using U-CARE 2.3.1 and the MATLAB pack v7.2 (I have tried v7.5, but U-CARE doesn't run if I use it).

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Tim
Hello,
In U-CARE,M-SURGE or E-SURGE, the inp format has some restrictions:
1) Letters are not allowed.
2) Commentaries are not allowed.
3) Tabular or any specials characters are not allowed.
Sincerely,
Rémi

Thank you Rémy.
However, I checked .inp files and they contain any letters or commentary. The fact that even example files like ed_males.inp does not work suggest a technical problem…

Hi,

I am also running into this issue all these years later. There did not seem to be a solution posted. Did anyone ever get this to work?

Thanks!

Without access to the file, it's difficult to say. As Rèmi Choquet said:
1) Letters are not allowed.
2) Commentaries are not allowed.
3) Tabular or any specials characters are not allowed.

If I use FILE / Verify (Mark Format) on the ed_males.inp file, I get an error message that says "Error on the line: 1" and, indeed, if you open the file, you can see the first line is a commentary. If you remove that line, you will be able to upload the file without issue.

Hi everyone,

I have read the different posts about the U-care problems with some input file characters.
In my case, I have given a dataset with a mark/recapture history of a wintering alpine bird. The idea is to analyse the annual survival and the intra-winter survival. The data was collected on two sites across 9 years, but unfortunately, one of the sites was not surveyed in the fifth year (winter), so a dot was included in the dataset.
What can I do to test the data with U-care? Is there any option? If not, anyone could suggest an alternative?

In adittion, there is a huge stardard error in the last Phi 8:Phi Phi 0.7145904 SE667.61331 Lower 0.1392750E-307 Upper 1.0000000
Could this be explained by the missing surveys (.)?

Many thanks
Pau Lucio
