There is an excellent example in the MacKenzie et al 2018 book (Occupancy Estimation and Modeling - Second Edition) on page 461 that explores standard design. In that example they outline how to determine the number of sites to visit given a target variance for occupancy and expected occupancy and detection values. My question is if there is a similar example out there for how to estimate the number of sites/surveys needed to achieve a desired variance around detection. I'm doing a gear comparison study and detection is more important to estimate than occupancy in this case.
Thank you!
