Model Import Issue From RMark to MARK

Postby Laurel » Wed Sep 07, 2022 11:37 am

Hello all,

I am hoping that someone will be able to assist me with a problem I am having importing a model from RMark. Every time I try to import the model, MARK eventually closes and I don’t have any error message to indicate what is wrong.

My dataset is from a walleye tagging study in a large reservoir. Walleye were tagged every spring for 4 years and anglers caught and reported tagged fish. We are interested in survival associated with anglers’ decision to keep or release fish, so I am running Burnham live-dead models with monthly intervals over 5 years (60 intervals total). It is a large dataset with approximately 34,000 fish.

My model has multiple groups and 4-month time bins for S and p while F is fixed to 1, and r is fixed to annual reporting rates we calculated separately.

I did check the forum, but I haven’t found any solutions that have solved my problem – please let me know if I missed something.

Troubleshooting:

I have been removing all previous tmp files every time and working within folders I have permission to access. I have tried running and importing the model on a different PC desktop computer as well as creating the model directly in MARK with similar results. The error is very similar to this post viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4190&p=13877&hilit=+import+error#p13877, so I tried importing a model without fixed parameters just in case that was an issue.

I have also previously been able to import a model created from this dataset with multiple groups and annual time bins for S and p. I tried rerunning and importing a similar model with multiple groups and annual time bins again, but this also failed.

I am using a computer with windows server 2019 with 3 TB RAM and a 64-bit operating system. I recently re-download program MARK from the version 10 link (I'm not sure if this is important, but it’s still saying version 9 during the download). I am using RStudio 2022.07.1, R version 4.2.1, RMark 3.0.0.

Please let me know if I need to add additional information.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

With RMark 3.0.0 from CRAN you should have mlogit0=TRUE by default so may not be the same problem as post you linked to. Please send me the .Rinp file (jefflaake@gmail.com) and the .out file that is trying to be imported. This is a problem in MARK which does the importing but maybe I can work out a solution to reduce problem size so MARK will import. Not sure if Gary is available to look at this currently.
