If that's the level of your question, you would be best advised to do the following:

1\ download -- and work through -- at least the first 7 chapters of the 'MARK book'.

http://www.phidot.org/software/mark/docs/book/

2\ you posted in the RMark section of the forum, but would can't use RMark unless you know how MARK works first, which takes you back to point 1, above.

3\ chapter 2 covers data formatting, but you need to know what you're doing first before worrying about 'real data'.

In addition to following Evan's suggestions... there is a little trick to save a .txt file as an .inp file.

Open your text file in notepad, in "File" click "Save As", when the "save" window appears:
1) Change "File type" to "All files"
2) In the name of your file, change the ".txt" extension for a ".inp" extension (yes, you just write it in there instead of .txt)
3) Save

You should now have a file named "yourfile.inp" which you will be able to use as a MARK input file.

On a side note, I recommend notepad++ to edit your input files instead of notepad (http://notepad-plus-plus.org/)

cheers,
