I have run into three problems importing RMark models to MARK.
I ran an ORDMS project in RMark with 29 primary periods, 189 secondary periods (total) and quite a bit of age and time variation. For a GOF test I wanted to estimate c-hat in MARK, so I re-analyzed the data set as a Multistrata analysis treating the secondary periods as primary periods and fixing parameters as necessary (see Converse et al. 2009, Auk 126:77-88.) I exported from RMark using the export.MARK() function, but when I try to import into MARK, MARK simply closes without explanation, after a few seconds. However, it does create a database to hold results, and I can open it – it just remains empty, and when I open it I get the message “No output is stored in the Results Database.”
Also, the top of the results browser says “ResultsBrowser: Multi-state with Live Recaptures c-hat=5450.0000000”.
5450 is the number encounter histories in my input file!
Is this analysis simply to big to import into MARK, or is there something else I am missing (i.e. maybe I set something up incorrectly)? And why the odd number for c-hat? It doesn’t seem to matter if I specify c-hat in the export argument.
Going on the assumption that perhaps it is simply too large for MARK to handle, I tried an analogous MS model where I collapsed all the secondary periods (so just 29 years, no RD structure). Again, this model exported just fine from RMark, and again it does create a results dbf, but this time, I get the following lengthy error message:
Error Code: 11 [ ]
Subsystem: BASE
Description: Dynamic Memory Low
CallStack:
DISPLAY_RESULTS:REDODELTAAIC (Line: 19)
MYTOPAPPWIN:APPENDOUTPUT (Line: 115)
MYTOPAPPWIN:FILENEWRMARK (Line: 295)
APP:START (Line: 815)
START (Line: 6)
When I click OK on this error message MARK freezes up, and I must kill it. Does this mean I don’t have enough computer memory to complete the RMark import (I have 4 GB)? When I attempt to open the project, I get a similar error.
I was curious if I could import one of the ORDMS models. Again the export went fine, but trying the import into MARK generated the following: “Number of groups specified <1”. There is one group specified in RMark, so I am at a loss to explain why this message appears or how to make sure it does not.
Any insights would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Glenn
