'beta test' for MARK 5.0 now available...

Greetings -

Gary has recently (18 December) developed a new version of the MARK interface (Version 5.0) with a new Visual Objects compiler (Version 2.8). To try this new version, download the 13Mb setup.exe file (see link below). To prevent problems, either (i) uninstall your old version of MARK, and then install the new version, or else (ii) select a different subdirectory for the new version. The splash screen for the new version is a grizzly sow with 2 cubs, with the MARK logo superimposed. To uninstall the older version of MARK, go to Control Panel, Add and Remove Software, and remove MARK.

There are no new features in the code, but execution times should be improved, and better memory management should be realized. Let Gary know of issues you encounter with this new version (preferably by posting here, so everyone benefits from your experience).

I downloaded the new 5.0 version (after uninstalling the old) but I get an error message when I try to invoke the design matrix. I reinstalled the older version and it runs okay...?

I am having the same problem - crashes regardless of whether or not I try to read in an old DM, or create a new one from scratch.

There is a bug with creation/recall of DM's with beta 5 - the bug lies in one or more DLL files missing from the installer. So, no point in working with beta-5.0 until Gary gets the basic installer fixed up.

Gary has been working on solving the DM bug that a number of folks found with the first beta release for 5.0. I've put a copy of the second beta - which seems to have fixed this bug - online:

For installing beta 2, I'd suggest doing a full uninstall of whatever version of MARK you currently have installed - including deleting the MARK shortcut icon). Do as complete a de novo install as you can.
