choking on Vista

Postby Doherty » Mon Oct 22, 2007 2:24 pm

I got a new laptop with Vista and have run into problems running MARK.

I got an update from the Microsoft Web site that helped.

I saw suggestions in past posts about checking off "run as administrator" in the properites of the MARK exe file to get the the temp files to work. I did that and solved that problem.

I am now having problems dumping output into Excel. I am getting error messages such as:

Error code: Object variable or With block variable not set
Subsystem: ExcelStart
Error Subcode: 1
Function: FILLCELL
Description: Object variable or With block variable not set
CallStack:
EXCELDIALOG:COPYARRY (line: 26)
EXCELDIALOG.POSTINIT (line: 10)
EXCELDIALOG.INIT (line 14)
DISPLAY_RESULTS:MODELAVERAGINGREAL (Line: 229)
APP:START (Line: 739)

When I hit “abort” a screen comes up saying

“CA-Visual Objects 2.0 Standard Application has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”

And no solution is found.

Can someone point me to a solution (other than switch operating systems - I hear that one often)?
:( :(

What you describe is a common Visual Basic programming error - something I often see when I'm debugging. And given the next part of the 'error', "CA-Visual Objects 2.0 Standard Application", I'm suspicious that it is the reference libraries associated with Excel in Vista that is the source of your problem; and specifically, I suspect that the needed library, "CA-Visual Objects 2.0 Standard Application", is not available in the default Vista settings. If this is the case, and assuming that adding it to your references doesn't cause other problems, then all you may need to do is locate, download, insert, and select the library from the references form.

To open this form, open excel and press ALT+F11 to open the Visual Basic editor. Next click Tools>References in the main menu. I looked for this library but didn't immediately see it...which makes me suspicious that it will need to be downloaded, inserted (see browse option), and selected (check box). Overall, this may be a well known issue so searching around with google may turn up a quick answer/solution - but I suspect the missing library.

A few more thoughts: You can read about CA-Visual Objects 2.x at http://www.rockymountain.com/dev_visualobjects.htm. It appears to be software for developing Windows operating programs including those that interact with Excel. However, I still suspect that it is a reference library that is causing your problem. Can you post a list of the 'selected' references from teh reference form I described previously? I'm curious which libraries nad versions are offered by default in Vista.

Andre,

The reference libraries in Excel 2007 are the same as Excel 2003 except the Object libraries are version 12 rather than 11.
