New MARK Version June 2014

Postby gwhite » Thu Jun 26, 2014 8:03 pm

June, 2014 Version 8.0 California Sea Lion

235. The N parameter in all of the closed captures data types and robust design derivatives has been changed to be labeled f0 to prevent users from mistakenly thinking setting the N parameters equal is evaluating this hypothesis. N is still provided as a derived parameter.

236. The random effects version of the Huggins estimator has been added for closed captures, robust designs, closed multi-state, and Pradel robust designs. The estimator uses Gauss-Hermite quadrature to integrate out individual random effects on detection probability, p. Population estimates are provided as derived parameters based on the estimated mean detection probability.

237. The Fletcher chat estimator (Fletcher 2012) has been added to the full output file, and also for collection by the simulator. This estimator requires knowing the total number of possible encounter histories, which can be problematic when parameter estimates preclude some histories. Examples of this problem are p = 0 in the CJS data type, or transition probabilities (psi) fixed to 0 or 1 in multi-state models. Other similar problems are caused by dots in the encounter history, or losses on capture.

238. The random effects version of the occupancy estimator has been added for single-season occupancy, and multi-season robust designs. The estimator uses Gauss-Hermite quadrature to integrate out individual random effects on detection probability, p.

There *may* be an interface bug which is causing some problems for some users. If you have version 7.2 working, don't upgrade until interface bug confirmed + fixed.

Preferences don't get set

Postby jjroper » Sat Jul 26, 2014 3:39 pm

I am using the new and improved MARK, and I just wondered why the preferences don't get set. I tried to change them (change text editor, for example) and no luck.

Hey Jim --

Problem must be something else *at your end* -- I can (and have) changed any number of preferences in the newest version.

Preferences don't get set

Postby jhines » Tue Dec 16, 2014 3:18 pm

I had trouble setting preferences with my new govt. owned laptop and found a way to fix it.
1) open registry editor (type 'regedit' in cmd window)
2) search for 'CA-Visual' (Control-F)
3) right-click 'MARK' just below CA-Visual Objects Applications key that was just found
4) left-click 'Permissions...' in pop-up menu
5) left-click 'ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES'
6) check the 'Full Control' checkbox, under 'Allow'
7) click 'OK'
8) Exit regedit

Yup, that will work -- but make sure you back up your registry first, just in case.

Out of curiosity, Windows 8.x machines? No issue on the Win 7 machines, but the security model changed from Win 7 -> Win 8.

It's a Win 8 machine. I remember having trouble with a previous machine (win 7, I think), but I'm pretty sure it was due to the extra security installed by my employer. For example, there are some settings I can't change, even when logged on as admin
