view results of estimation

I am working my through "A Gentle Introduction to Mark" and have hit a problem in Chapter 3.

I get as far as viewing the Results Browser: Live Recaptures (CJS), when I try to open the view estimates of real parameters in notepad I get the message

Return value from WinExec = 2

In the preference options my Editor Location is set to Notepad++, no file path just the programme name.

I guess I need to change something?

Correct. You need to point MARK to the actual executable.Go into preferences, down to the part where you specify the editor you want, click the 'browse' button, and navigate to where notepad++ is (usually you find it at C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\notepad++.exe). Then, click 'OK', and restart MARK. That should do the trick.

I click yes and get the message

"Cannot create the file C:\Programe"

but a Notepadd++ window has opened called new 1 - Notepad++

Read my reply more carefully. If you've installed Notepad++ on a Windows 7 machine - 64-bit, then the file is located

C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\notepad++.exe)

Notepad ++ is a 32-bit program, and gets installed in the x86 subdirectory.

If you're using 32-bit Windows 7, not sure. But so long as you browse to find the executable, you should be fine. If not, then the problem lies with your computer, not MARK.

The problem is probably that the computer I'm using is on Vista 32 bit, so I don't have the (x86) directory so my file path is different. I'll try another computer.

You must be really new to computers. The OS doesn't matter. Click the browse button under preferences, and simply locate the notepad++ executable. If you do that successfully, and it still doesn't work, then the problem is with your computer.

Wasn't hard. Symptoms were there. Trying to get up to speed with computers in general, and MARK in the process, might be a bit daunting. You might want to get some help for the initial stages.

Different problem. The /examples subdirectory that MARK creates when you install it is installed in a system directory that you can't write too (in other words, MARK can't read/write to C\:Program Files\MARK\Examples). So, simply navigate to C\:Program Files\MARK\Examples, and copy the /examples subdirectory out onto your desktop, and then run the examples there. Any user (and application) has read/write access to the desktop, just not something in C\:Program Files\MARK\Examples (specifically) or C\:Program Files (generally).
