Problems with most recent MARK build?

Postby Jay E. Clark » Tue Nov 30, 2004 4:05 pm

Gary,

I recently downloaded the most recent build of MARK to a couple different machines (running either 2000 or XP). After installing, a couple of my project files started going wacko when I tried to open them following the download. For example, when I try to open a project, sometimes the program just aborts/closes with no error message or warning. Other times, the file will open but the results table is whacked out (e.g., AIC values, wts, etc have changed and have the same values throughout the table). Luckily, they still open when I use an earlier build.

Has anyone else had these problems? If so, suggestions about how to fix it?

Thanks,
Jay Clark

Old DLL files

Jay:
Almost for certain, you have the old DLL files still on your hard drive. You need to completely uninstall the old version of MARK, and get rid of the old DLL files. Then, install the new version. There are conflicts between the old and new versions of the DLL files that are causing your problems.

Gary has submitted an answer, but a gentle reminder to check the MARK FAQ first - you'll see that item 8 in the FAQ deals with this point exactly - it tells you that your first step to solving this sort f problems is to completely uninstall MARK, deleting old directories, and then re-installing with the latest build.

In case you haven't seen it, the MARK FAQ (as opposed to the forum FAQ) is found at

Evan and Gary,

I appreciate the assistance! Before I initially submitted my problem, I did review prior posts and checked the MARK FAQ; however, none of these have solved my problem.

Where would I find the appropriate *.DLL filles to delete? I am assuming (which is scary) when you say "subdirectories" that you are referring to the "MARK" folder (which typically gets put in the "Program Files" directory). I have unistalled/reinstalled MARK numerous times, deleted the MARK folder before reinstalling (if it had not already been deleted), rebooted after reinstalling, and am still having the same problem.

I have also looked at the MARK folder on another machine, recorded all the *.DLL files, searched for them on my machine, and temporarily deleted them before reinstalling... still same problem.

Thanks again,
Jay Clark

MARK Installation

Jay:
I think you need to uninstall MARK, and then delete the subdirectory named MARK in the Program Files. Then, reboot your machine. Install the new version of MARK, and possibly reboot again (rebooting forces Windows to re-read the locations of registered DLL files).

If all of this doesn't fix the problem, then I need more information about what exactly is happening. In particular, I may need the DBF and FPT files that are causing the trouble, so that I can try to duplicate the error on my machine.

Gary:

I did as you suggested but am still having some issues; however, it does appear to be an issue with a specific analysis (i.e., my other files appear to be running ok).

When I reinstalled MARK this go around, I got the following error messages:

"Unable to register component: C:\Program Files\MARK\Shrink.dll
Specified procedure cannot be found"
(1st time that I have gotten this one)

and

"Unable to register component: C:\WINNT\system32\lfpcd13n.dll
Specified procedure cannot be found"
(gotten this message before but ignored after seeing a post on the forum)

When I try to open the file in question, MARK either closes with no error message OR the results table comes up with the correct AICc values but delta AIC's and wts are all screwed-up. This happens with my back-up files of this analysis as well!!!

Do you want me to e-mail my DBF and FPT file to you?

Thanks for all your help!
Jay
