Greetings --
I have just posted 'late draft' of a new appendix to the 'MARK book' -- appendix 4: variance components and random effects models in MARK. This appendix (almost entirely drawn from work by Ken Burnham, and more recently Burnham & White) reviews the basic theory, as well as the mechanics, of using these methods in MARK. There will no doubt be tweaks to the chapter in the not-too-distant future, but I thought it worth getting it 'out there' now.
You can download the new appendix directly here:

For those of you interested in such things, the MCMC chapter is pending (end of October), while some shorter sections on other 'compute intensive' approaches will be posted in the next little while.
Also,a reminder that the individual chapters/appendices are always more current than the fully collated book (i.e, the book as a single PDF file). I do the collation and indexing of the entire book only periodically. I'll probably do it again at the end of October.
