book chapter revisions | GOF, and multi-state

I just posted a 'slightly tweaked' revision of Chapter 5 (GOF chapter), and a significantly 'tweaked' revision of Chapter 9 (multi-state models). The changes to Chapter 5 are minor (mostly minor corrections). However, for Chapter 9, I've added sections on some new approaches to GOF testing for multi-state models, which should be of general interest. I introduce GOF testing for MS models as implemented in program U-CARE, and use of the median c-hat approach for GOF testing fo MS models. If you don't already have a copy of U-CARE, you can (and should) download it from

I'd suggest at the minimum, downloading the new Chapter 9. Alternatively, you can download the most recent build of the entire book (which is fully indexed) - the book file contains the updated chapter 5 and 9. (In fact, if you haven't downloaded the entire book within the last 3 months, you should - there have been a fair number of changes).
