help setting up a multi-sesaon model

Postby jbauder » Thu Jun 13, 2013 10:59 am

I could use some help in setting up a multi-season model in PRESENCE to test a specific hypothesis. I have a three year data set (4 surveys per year) for eastern indigo snakes. One site covariate is the number of tortoise burrows at each site. Although this number is fixed within a season it can change across seasons (e.g., due to site disturbance). I would like to build a model to test the hypothesis that indigo snake occupancy is influenced by the "annual" count of tortoise burrows at each site, that is, allow occupancy to vary by year and number of tortoise burrows.
How would I set up such a model in PRESENCE? I tried the following approach:
psi1 TB1 0 0
psi2 0 TB2 0
psi3 0 0 TB3
But I got several zeros for standard errors.

Thanks for the help!

Presuming you expect the effect of tortoise burrows to be the same each year (so psi(yr + TB) model), then;

psi1 1 0 0 TB1
psi2 1 1 0 TB2
psi3 1 0 1 TB3

or, if you think the TB effect will be different each year (ie interaction between yr and TB, psi(yr*TB)), then

psi1 1 0 0 TB1 0 0
psi2 1 1 0 TB2 TB2 0
psi3 1 0 1 TB3 0 TB3

There are also other equivalent ways of setting up the design matrices
