back transforming SE

Postby gibbon » Wed Aug 25, 2010 10:50 am

I am using the excel function =EXP(N16)/(1+EXP(N16)) to back transform my psi and p beta estimates into occupancy and detectability estimates for my best ranked and averaged models.

Are the associated SE back transformed in the same way?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Eric,

SEs can't be computed simply by back transforming the SEs. Instead, this requires use of the delta method to compute approximate SEs. Evan has a nice write up of the delta method in Appendix 2 of GIM and example 3 gives you exactly what you need for the logit transform.

Cheers,
