questions concerning analysis/theory using program PRESENCE

alert limits and threshold levels

Postby rcamp » Thu Dec 10, 2009 6:57 pm

Aloha list,
I am developing a Hawaiian landbird monitoring program that will use occupancy surveys to assess species' distributions. The surveys and analyses are straight forward procedures, however, I want to include alert limits for different changes in occupancy (psi) and detection probability (p). I have developed/modified similar alert limits for abundance metrics (see example below) from the IUCN (BirdLife 2000), U.S. Breeding Bird Survey (Peterjohn et al. 1995), and United Kingdom Breeding Bird Survey (see Crick et al. 1997) monitoring programs and want to do so for occupancy.
Any help or examples you can provide are much appreciated.
Rick Camp

Example --
If absolute density declines by <25% over 25 years than continue every 5 year density monitoring.
If absolute density declines by >25% over 25 years than switch to annual density monitoring.
If absolute density declines by >50% over 25 years than 1) continue annual density monitoring, and 2) implement demography study to estimate rate of growth and birth/death rates.
