Seasonal Occupancy error message

Postby doreen » Mon Aug 10, 2009 11:06 pm

Hello all,

Each time I try to run the Seasonal Occupany (eps=1-gam) parameterization in the single-species, multiple-season model, I receive an error message and Presence locks up. I have not experienced this problem with any of the other parameterizations. Any thoughts? Thanks.

A bit more info would be nice. What sort of error message? What do your design matrices look like? Is it a simple model using that parameterization? When did you download PRESENCE?

Downloaded the most recent version of Presence yesterday (8-10). The error message is a Microsoft message that says Presence.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. My operating system is Windows XP. Just trying to run the basic model with no additional entries in the design matrix.

Doreen and Darryl,

I'm having similar problems with the program. I have Presence Version 2.3 <090618.1324) running on a Windows XP machine. I receive the same standard Microsoft error message that Doreen gets while running the Multistate, multiseason models with the Psi,R,delta, p parameterization.

However, mine seems to run several models with continuous covariates without fail. On the first occasion that I attempt to incorporate a categorical covariate, the program bogs down with the error message. It provides identical information of the previous model run in the Presence Results window, but the output file contains no information.

I was having similar issues with the Multistate, Multiseason suite of models and the Psi,R,delta,p parameterization for psi earlier in the year, and Jim Hines was able to fix the software.

Have both of you triple checked your data file to make sure there's no illegal characters? That's a typical cause of that error.

I believe so. All my detection history files have 1's and 0's other than 3 .'s denoting missed surveys within the first primary sampling occasion. I have 5 categorical varibles and 2 continuous.

I receive this message every time I try to run the 4th parameterization in the multiple season model; however, I also receive it in what seems to be a random fashion when using Presence but there is likely a pattern I have not yet detected (no pun intended). I thought it was occurring after choosing the seasonal option when populating the detection tab in the design matrix so I stopped using that option and fill the information in manually. However, the error still occurs periodically. When it happens, I close down Presence, reopen it, reopen my project and go on.
