recapture estimated in a CJS model but not multistate

Postby fwleit » Wed Jun 23, 2021 5:33 am

Hi,

Im currently running multistate models to look at reproductive skipping behavior. I have data across 8 occasions (years), and two seabird colonies. I am running an analysis where I have two states (breeder and nonbreeder) and a group (colony effect). In my multistate models, the recapture rates of breeders is consistently inestimable, yet nonbreeder recapture rates are estimated fine. If I use the exact same data but in a simple CJS model, taking out the transitions, it is also able to estimate recapture rates totally fine.

I havent come across any issues such as this in the forum before (sorry if it has and I missed it), so any help on how to improve the model so it can estimate breeder recapture would be appreciated.

Likely a simple problem setting things up. Send me the .inp, .fpt and .dbf files offline, and I'll have a look.
