Open Population Estimates

Postby kate12 » Fri Mar 31, 2006 5:57 pm

I have a rather small population of terrestrial carnivores that I trapped over 3 years and I want to try and estimate population numbers for both open and closed models. I have figured out how to use CAPTURE for the closed model population estimates, but I am not understanding how I can use a Robust or Jolly-Seber model to estimate pop. numbers. I know this is a totally remedial question but even if you could direct me to a section in the MARK manual that explains how to do this, I'd be grateful. Thanks

What you want to pursue is the robust design - not written up for the 'gentle guide' - yet (by June...). A chapter on classical Jolly-Seber models is also being developed by Carl Scwarz - probably before June. In the interim

1) study how MARK handles closed population models (you'll need to understand this to use the robust design)

2) read the help file on the RD, and the various notes that are available on Gary's website.
