Survival question

Postby sergiodel90 » Tue May 12, 2020 11:30 am

Hi!

I want to verify if the color of the rings have a influence the probability that a bird will be observed for 8 years.

I have 200 ringed chickens (100 red and 100 orange ring). When I put the data in Mark as CJS, I get a 7 * 7 matrix. But my doubt is if it should not be 7 * 1 because I only use the data of a one initial breeding period of ringed.

Thanks

It's OK. Indeed, if you have defined a group for each color, you should get four of them (two for survival and two for recapture probabilities). MARK does not care that all individuals have been marked in the first session (there would be little point in doing so). If you have a single cohort of markings, you need to run models that make sense with that, that's it.
