ref.s on the limits of matrix models

In the "Gentle Introduction", on page 13-10:

"there is a growing literature debating whether or not some of
the ergodic assumptions underlying matrix methods really are a limit.."

I will be grateful if you could name some of these references!

Easy - buy Caswell's textbook, and read all the sections on perturbation analysis of stochastic and D-D models - shows clearly such approaches work rather well even for matrices without strong ergodic properties.
