Dear all,
I have a rather specific question regarding the specification of the my PIMs (data type "recaptures only").
I have captured animals in spring, summer and autumn and I have two age classes. The juveniles are born in summer, therefore I have the first survival estimate for this age class from summer to autumn (since I don't have any capture histories for juveniles starting in spring, I used the value 99 which I fixed to 1 and the regarding p to 0). Animals are adult after their first winter.
The problem is, that in autumn all adult animals are gone and I capture only juveniles in this time. (I have marked all occasions where I did not capture any adults with a "*".) One aim of this study is to look at age differences in over-winter survival. For juveniles it is easy (estimates 2 and 9). But I don't know how to get correct estimates for adults (For those I would in fact need the survival between summer to the next spring).
My approach was to say that survival for adults was similar between Su-Au and Au-Sp (as they are both "winter") and set 5=4 and 13=12. For the recapture probability I fixed p=0 in autumn.
When I tried those specifications, I could not get any useful estimations for over winter survival for adults (all CI ranging from 0 - 1).

How do I have to change the PIMs (and which values to fix) to get the estimates I need?
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer my question.
Sincerely,
