Constraining parameters before the crash

I am running a model with 4 groups (replicate sites) and ten strata in each site. I have 32 monthly encounter occasions and over 650 marked animals. Upon opening MARK (racapture only), the default PIM is initialized with many thousands of parameters. I am using a machine with dual 1.7 Ghz processors and 1 GB of RAM. I can run the default model without a crash, but any attempt to modify the PIM (even by opening 1 pim window at a time) results in a program crash. Also, it takes more than five minutes to simply open the database and retrieve a saved model. Can anyone suggest other ways to constrain the model? Is there a way to modify the PIM outside of the graphical user interface?
