new version problem

Postby Mark Trinder » Wed Mar 08, 2006 10:22 am

Hi Evan

I can't seem to get the new MARK version to run properly. At the point of running a model the program hangs -after clicking 'run model' the expected prompt to use an identity matrix never appears and no DOS window opens. Two temp files are created, one a copy of the inp file and the other has the initial details which normally scroll in the DOS window, getting as far as listing the encounter histories, before adding 1000s of blank lines, which just grows and grows the longer you leave it (I am guessing these 2 files are normal, apart from the blank lines bit).

I have tried removing and reinstalling, (and downloading setup afresh) and there does seem to be a recurring problem with registering a component:

Either during installation or when uninstalling I get a message about a failure to register (or remove) the following file:

c:\windows\system32\Graphdtc.ocx

Is this something to do with activex in which case is it a problem with software I either have or haven't already installed?

cheers
Mark

oops - apologies all round.

Although the 'failure to register' message is not resolved, it turns out the problem I have been having was a subtle one to do with the format of text file I was outputting from Matlab. Although the file is indistinguishable when viewed in notepad/notespad, because I was writing it as .inp I needed to specifiy that it was written in text format and also make sure that the appropriate carriage return/new line operator was used in order to produce an acceptable file for MARK.

I have aways used Excel to produce my inp files up until now (with none of these problems), but got clever and wrote my own scripts in Matlab to automate the process - to save time....

sound familiar?

Although you seem to have resolved your problem, you might also be using MARK installed using a slightly corrupted setup.exe file (which I discovered earlier this morning). Even though you may have solved the problem, I strongly urge you (and anyone else) who has downloaded and installed MARK from my server within the past couple of weeks to download a fresh version, and re-install.
