Mark simulations to MCMC?

Postby Eldar » Fri Jan 14, 2011 4:39 pm

. I am trying to simulate big multistrata dataset in Mark, and met several problems:
1. Is it possible to save true or estimation model from simulation result (dbf) and then open it in Mark or Rmark? (I would like to run MCMC but this button is not active in simulation/estimation models). I can open the model xxx.tmp file from output in notepad, but have no idea how to send it to Mark as a model..
2. Is there a way to setup Mark simulations from RMark?
Thanks,
Eldar

1) You cannot export a MARK model to RMark. You can only import an RMark created model/data into MARK. Since RMark is there to create models it doesn't make much sense to import into RMark a model that has already been created in MARK.
2) No and I'm not sure why you would want to do that. Again, RMark is an interface to create models for MARK so you can create and run a specific model, export it and then import into MARK and then run the simulations in MARK. It is MARK that is doing all of the computation so from where I sit I can't see any reason to do that. You can always create your own simulation and use RMark to build the models.

Dear Jeff,
Thanks for the immediate reply. I understood that I formulated my questions in some tangled way. So,
1. I have a true estimation model in Mark simulation database. Is there any way to open it in regular Mark database?
2. Ok, I'l try to figure out how open RMark model for simulations in Mark.

Thanks a lot!

1) I don't know. Never done it.
2) Use export.MARK from RMark and then use File/Import from RMark in MARK interface.

2) export.MARK works great!
Why it is not on the Mark book?
Thanks,

It takes a lot of time to write documentation. The material in Appendix C of the MARK book is a few years old now. The workshop notes are a little newer. I add to the code and don't always have time to add it to the formal documentation but I always document any changes/additions in What's New and try to keep the R help files updated. If you want to stay abreast of changes you should review What's New whenever you update RMark. export.Mark was added about a year ago. --jeff
