Trouble GOF testing POPAN

Postby Joana » Wed Aug 05, 2009 12:38 pm

Hi everybody,

For starts I want to say that I’ve read the AGI book and searched the forum before I realized that I’m stuck and decided to ask for help.

I’m currently working on my MSc. thesis on amphibian larvae and my dataset consists of 6 sampling occasions (live encounters) and 12 groups (all ponds with a recapture rate >0.2). I’m interested in estimating abundance, survival and eventual migration for every pond and afterwards, relating those estimates to each pond’s biotic and abiotic factors.

I started by fitting a fully time-dependent model with the POPAN formulation (p(s*t)phi(s*t)pent(s*t)) and assessed the GOF using RELEASE. The RELEASE output indicated that I do not have sufficient data in a lot of occasions, for all my groups, so I fitted a less parameterized model (p(s)phi(t*s)pent(t*s)) but now I don’t know how to assess this model’s GOF since I can´t use RELEASE/ U-CARE because this is not a fully-time dependent model, and I can’t use the median c-hat or Bootstrap approaches with POPAN…Additionally, I noticed that on page 13.19 of the manual, the output from the RELEASE testing also indicates insufficient data but it isn´t mentioned in the text and doesn’t seem to be much of a problem… Am I just missing something huge or my dataset is simply doomed?

Thanks for your attention,
Joana

Hi Joana.
I'm having a similar problem, so I'm afraid that I don't have the answer for it. Anyway, I want to ask you why you can't use the c-hat or bootstrap approaches with the POPAN?
Thanks and good luck with the question.
