Sample size required for parameter estimates

Postby megpetrie » Tue Feb 06, 2007 6:40 pm

Hello, I have a data set from an acoustic tagging project for which we tagged 120 fish from 4 rivers. I simply want to determine survival rates and the recapture rates of recievers placed in the path of migration. I modeled the data and got the real parameter estimates using the CJS model, but they seem high. I'm wondering if my sample size is not large enough to produce reliable estimates in this case. There are a few zeros in the encounter history file (example of one line =

1001 1 1 0 0;

where the four frequencies are from different rivers). Would this be a problem I could get around in any way?
